Lesson 7 - Sociology: The Divine Imprint

Introduction

In the previous session, attention was given to the ways in which the physical universe reveals the glory of its Creator. This session turns to the social order, examining how God’s nature is reflected within it.

The evidence of this divine imprint is presented as even more striking and revealing of the Creator’s character than what is observed in the natural world. Because of this, it is also more directly connected to the central conflict between truth and falsehood.

Themes

The discussion continues from the previous session, where the natural world was shown to communicate clear and unmistakable truths about God’s nature and character. As stated, creation itself speaks—through its structure, function, and design. One of the most dominant messages conveyed is order.

From the smallest components of matter to the vast systems of the universe, from biological processes to the design of living organisms, there are consistent indications of intentional design. This presents a direct challenge to the idea that everything is the result of random and unguided forces.

This same principle of order is also evident in the social systems established by God. Six such systems are identified: family, labor, church, state, community, and the relationship between humanity and God. The order found within these systems is not simply a product of design, but a reflection of God’s own nature.

As Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God exists in unity and diversity. This provides a resolution to the question of how unity and plurality coexist. Relationship, connection, and community are not later developments—they are inherent within the nature of God Himself. These realities form the foundation for how creation functions in an ordered and relational way.

Because of this, social institutions such as marriage, family, and the church become central points of tension. Just as there is opposition to God, there is also opposition to the structures that reflect His nature.

This session specifically examines how order and relationship are expressed within three areas: the family, the church, and the relationship between God and humanity. These are presented as interconnected and reflective of a threefold pattern. Particular attention is given to the family and the consequences that arise when this design is disregarded.

Key Observations

  • Comments from individuals in the video clearly reveal the pain, confusion, and strong emotional responses often tied to discussions of family and related issues.

  • These same reactions are likely to surface during group conversation. The video also presents a wide range of commonly held definitions of “family,” which may lead to equally varied responses among participants.

  • In addition, the session directly addresses the subject of authority and submission within marriage, the church, and other areas of God’s design for the social order.
